Paramedical tattooing is a specialised cosmetic tattooing technique used to improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks, vitiligo and changes to the skin caused by surgery, injury or other conditions.
Depending on the skin concern, treatment may involve scar camouflage, stretch mark camouflage, vitiligo camouflage, areola tattooing or Inkless Scar Revision (ISR). Pigments can be carefully matched to the surrounding skin, while specialised techniques can help improve colour differences and, in some cases, the appearance and texture of scar tissue.
The aim is not to make the treated area look artificially perfect, but to make it less noticeable and more naturally blended with the surrounding skin.
The most suitable treatment depends on the colour, texture, age, location and condition of the scar or skin concern.
For example, scar camouflage or vitiligo camouflage may be suitable when the main concern is a difference in skin colour. If the area is mainly a texture issue, such as a white or shiny stretch mark, Inkless Scar Revision (ISR) may be more appropriate because it focuses on improving the appearance of the skin rather than adding pigment.
I assess each area individually before treatment and will recommend the most appropriate approach for your skin rather than automatically choosing camouflage.
Everyone experiences treatment differently, but most clients describe paramedical tattooing as manageable rather than painful.
A topical numbing cream may be used where appropriate to improve comfort during the procedure. Sensitivity can also vary depending on the location and whether the skin has been affected by surgery or scarring.
